Matt McArthur
Matt McArthur is Deputy Headteacher at Frank Wise School in Banbury, a special school for children and young adults aged between 2 and 19. He is the subject-leader for Numeracy, and teaches the Year 5 and Year 8 classes.
Matt has a Masters degree in Educational Leadership and Management, and works closely with mainstream leaders to review and develop their SEND provision in Oxfordshire and across the region.
Matt was Director of Teaching School at his school for five years, and continues to support the Oxfordshire Teaching School Hub with SEND-specific strands of Continuing Professional Development and Initial Teacher Training.
He has been part of the regional teams at Whole School SEND since 2019, supporting on the delivery on the aims of the Department for Education’s Strategic Support to the Workforce in Mainstream and Special Schools Contract, and the Universal SEND Services Contract.
Matt enjoys cooking, running and reading.

Focus: Leadership and Management
For: SENDCOs, senior leaders who want to be more informed about SEN
Description:
This is an opportunity for SENDCos to meet regularly for CPLD, networking, discussion and problem solving.
This first session will focus on meeting the needs of children with Social Emotional and Mental Health Needs, through the distributed leadership of SEND.
- Identifying characteristics of SEMH
- Strategies to support children in mainstream with SEMH needs
- Up-skilling teachers and teaching assistants to meet greater complexity of need
- Â A responsive discussion about approaches, challenges and solutions
SENDCos will then develop an understanding of how the EEF implementation cycle can support effective strategic improvement in order to secure stronger outcomes for children with SEND over time, focussing particularly on the Exploration and Preparation stages.

This is a three session programme. All three sessions must be attended.
