Birmingham Catholic Primary Partnership

Rwanda and Tanzania - January 2013 Update Projects to be carried out in 2013

Rwanda:

Continue sponsorship of twelve secondary aged pupils. These now cost £250.00 per sponsored child for the academic year and cover:

  • School fees
  • Food
  • A bed
  • Exercise books
  • Uniform
  • Examination fees
  • Boarding fees (£3000.00)

In addition, £300.00 is needed to sponsor four children who need day rate support. These cost £75.00 each per academic year and cover:

  • School fees
  • Exercise books
  • Uniform
  • Examination fees (£300.00)

Paul Walmsley, the Director of the Primary Partnership, has now sent this money to Sister Susan. She will use this to support the pupils once the new school year begins in January 2013.

Pupils who are being supported regularly send cards to say thank you to individuals and schools that support them. In addition, Sister sends the school reports to the Director for distribution.

Several houses in the very poor community of Kiruhura need re-roofing. One house needs a complete rebuild. This work will cost approximately £2000.00.

Total support required for work in Rwanda this year is £5300.00.

Tanzania

The Director recently visited Tanzania to finalise the school building project, approve the plan, ensure sustainability and meet all concerned with the building works etc.

The Project

The BCPP built a nursery unit on the school site some time ago. Further development was hampered by issues regarding land ownership. These have now been resolved.

The Sisters in Tanzania now urgently need to build two classroomsand a toilet block to accommodate children starting their junior education.

Children in the Junior 1 class are already receiving their education in a renovated building.

The approximate cost of building two classrooms and a toilet block will be about £20,000.00.

Photos of this project will appear here in the Spring Term 2013

The total needed to meet the commitments in Rwanda and Tanzania, is therefore £25,300.

Please consider donating some of the monies raised by your school or parish during Advent and Lent towards meeting the costs of this work. Other cash donations are welcomed throughout the year!

If you are interested in sponsoring a child’s education costs, please contact the BCPP Director, Paul Walmsley.

Paul Walmsley would also welcome the chance to visit schools or parishes to talk about the Rwanda and Tanzanian projects. Again, just contact him.
